The Best Freediving App for Android
CO2 and O2 tables, guided breathing, static holds and a course to tell you why it all works. The Android apps worth training with, and the rules that keep it safe.
The best freediving app for Android depends on whether you want a timer or a whole training system. Diving Standard is free and brings together CO2, O2, warm-up and FRC tables, guided breathing, a static hold timer, a freediving weighting calculator and two freediving courses. Freediving Trainer and Freedive are focused table apps, Apnea Assistant is free with no ads, and STAmina is a paid app for dry static apnea. Whichever you choose: train holds on dry land, never alone, and never in water without a trained buddy.

- The rule
- Never train holds alone
Most freediving apps are breath-hold timers with more or less structure around them. The good ones build tables from your own personal best, talk you through your breathing and keep a history. The best ones also explain what's happening in your body, so you train with your head as well as your lungs.
Safety first. Breath-hold training can cause blackout without warning, even on land. Train sitting or lying down somewhere safe, never in or near water alone, and never push to your limit without a trained buddy. An app is a timer, not a safety net.
The apps compared
Diving Standard
Best for: Training, learning and planning in one free app
Tables generated from your own maximum hold: CO2, O2, warm-up, FRC and a custom builder, with four breathing patterns, a static hold timer and a history. Generated tables are capped so none reaches your stated maximum, and O2 tables top out at 80 percent. Add a freediving weighting calculator, a Freediving Fundamentals course and Certified Freediver Level 1 theory. Sessions stay on your device.
Freediving Trainer
Best for: A complete table-and-timer app
Often called one of the most complete Android training apps, with simple table programming and countdown calls in the style used at AIDA competitions.
Freedive
Best for: A simple, free table app
A friendly free app for creating and editing your own tables, without ad clutter.
Apnea Assistant
Best for: Free tracking with no ads or subscription
A free app for freedivers of every level to train and track progress, with no premium tier.
STAmina Apnea Trainer
Best for: Dedicated dry static apnea
A paid app built for static apnea at home, for beginners and experienced freedivers and spearfishers alike.
Prana Breath
Best for: Breathing and relaxation
Guided breathing and meditation with audio cues, useful for the calm freediving depends on.

What the tables actually do
| Table | What it trains | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| CO2 table | Tolerance to rising carbon dioxide | Constant holds, shrinking rests |
| O2 table | Tolerance to low oxygen | Rising holds, constant rests |
| Warm-up | Priming before a session | Gentle holds, short rests |
| FRC | Holds at the end of a relaxed exhale | Lungs near resting volume |
Every table is built from a personal best, so start with a recent, realistic maximum, not your best day ever. In Diving Standard the base hold can be anything from 20 seconds to 8 minutes.
Beyond the timer
- Weighting. Getting your weight right matters as much as your breath. Try the freediving weighting calculator.
- Knowledge. Read how to train for freediving and scuba diving vs freediving.
- Courses. The in-app theory covers the fundamentals and Certified Freediver Level 1. It doesn't replace a course with an instructor in the water.
